Helping Families Grow Through Adoption

At the Law Offices of James V. Sansone, we take great joy in helping families unite through the process of adoption. We have helped many clients in cases involving a stepparent adoption. Most stepparent adoptions are finalized without objection by biological parents, but we have the ability to handle complex adoption cases involving the termination of parental rights.

If you are a mother or father who needs help with a stepparent adoption, we can help. We provide experienced and dedicated legal representation on behalf of clients throughout the North Bay area. We are committed to providing quality legal representation at reasonable rates.

Termination of Parental Rights

Prior to the time that a child is adopted, it may be necessary to terminate the parental rights of a biological parent. Termination of parental rights is a very serious and sensitive issue. As such, having an experienced lawyer who understands the need to manage these cases delicately and with discretion is essential.

We have considerable experience handling child abandonment cases and facilitating termination of parental rights. In California, the custodial parent can move to terminate the parental rights of a noncustodial parent if there has been at least one full year without either financial support or significant contact.

Token contacts such as sending a birthday card do not count. However, courts take the act of terminating a parent's rights very seriously and will rarely do so, unless a stepparent adoption is also pending. Attorney James V. Sansone will assist in determining whether the facts in your case constitute abandonment, and if so, whether a termination proceeding is likely to be successful.
